Any place that has a reputation as being haunted also has such a great history.

My King freak out moment was reading Salem's Lot late one night when my parents were out of town. Scared me silly!

I think you nailed it on the head though. The scariest things are those that are normal, but somehow touched by the paranormal.Witless Expositionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07455282931743006892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1729289955062416774.post-90431613720744848852011-03-24T12:34:42.959-04:002011-03-24T12:34:42.959-04:00@Misha: if you're ever in Toronto, Hamilton is...@Misha: if you're ever in Toronto, Hamilton is just a 45 minute drive away. Come on down!

@Nas: Absolutely, just come on by. Thanks for the heads up about what's going on over at your blog. Sounds great.

@Annie: Childhood fears are big, and yes, I think POV does enter into the formula somehow. King is also good at really sinking into a character's perspective on a scene, isn't he? Hm... And also, you should come to Hamilton!

I don't know if it's just my corner of the world, but I'm finding that there is a lot of interest in haunted houses / ghosts and ghost walks or tours these days. It's just a matter of finding the people who run them.Elizabeth Twisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03133959633383307056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1729289955062416774.post-35181076295883259512011-03-24T01:36:15.400-04:002011-03-24T01:36:15.400-04:00I've put a lot of thought into this very topic...I've put a lot of thought into this very topic. Three passages stand out in my mind, all from Stephen King (2 from The Shining and 1 from Salem's Lot). They're all based on very primal fears, mostly rooted in childhood. And for me, what makes them scary is feeling the character's fear. A description of "something scary" isn't nearly as terrifying to me as a description of someone BEING scared.

Anyway, great topic. And I wish I could go on that ghost tour! =)Annie Neugebauerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16808481877463532473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1729289955062416774.post-87504880787799605372011-03-23T19:22:43.205-04:002011-03-23T19:22:43.205-04:00Scary, though it chills you but we love visiting h...Scary, though it chills you but we love visiting haunted places, don't we? I would love to go on a tour like that. So next time I'm in Hamilton, can I ask you to take me?

BTW, I'm hosting Roland D Yeomans today, who self-published his book THE BEAR WITH TWO SHADOWS and is sharing his journey with us as well as a four book giveaway!

www.nas-dean.blogspot.comNashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14984530648140460594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1729289955062416774.post-52809254639893911932011-03-23T15:22:42.642-04:002011-03-23T15:22:42.642-04:00Sounds like a great ghost walk!
